Abstract :
This paper first addresses critical design issues and identifies key design specifications for emerging high-definition (HD) radio technology. A dual-path dual-IF receiver architecture is then proposed for potential low-power low-cost monolithic implementations. Two front-ends are tailored for AM and FM band operations, respectively, using IBM 0.18-μm CMOS process. Circuit techniques such as noise/distortion cancellation and current injection are employed. The AM front-end provides 30.4-dB maximum gain and 0.53-dBm IIP3, with 1.67-nV/√Hz input referred noise. On the FM side, it offers 27.2-dB maximum gain, 6.4-dB noise figure and 5.4-dBm IIP3.
