Abstract :
Demand for an antenna operating in multi-bands has been increasing rapidly for applications such as GPS and K-PCS. The multi-band antennas with one feeding port use multiple resonance technology (R. Kronberger et al., AP confer., pp. 2714-2717, 1999). It can be difficult for such antennas to provide good polarization efficiency for GPS signal reception. So the integrated GPS/K-PCS dual-band antenna using two feeding ports has been proposed in this paper. A referenced dual-band antenna using two feeding port has matched polarization of integrated system, but it has large size. The proposed antenna uses a miniaturization technique of inserting slits. This technique increases electrical surface length by the slits (S. Reed et al., Microwave Opt. Technol. Lett., vol 29, 2001; J.Y. Wu and K.L. Wong, Electronics Lett., vol. 34, 1998; W.S. Chen et al., Trans. Antennas Propagat., vol. 49, 2001). The operating frequency of proposed antenna is greatly lowered by slits. A meander line patch and square ring patch with four slits of proposed antenna are about 70% and 50% of referenced antenna size. The proposed antenna is composed of a low-profile cylindrical monopole with a top-loaded meander line patch for K-PCS operation, and a corner-truncated square-ring microstrip patch antenna with four-slits for GPS operation.
