Abstract
IGCTs are connected in series for higher voltage applications. The paper takes ABB´s 5SHY35l4510 IGCT as the research object. A RC-snubber circuit is designed for series-connected IGCTs. The values of capacity and resistance in this RC-snubber circuit are calculated. Then, the RC-snubber circuit is simulated by PSIM and experimented in laboratory. The efficiency of the RC-snubber circuit is compared between simulated waves and experimented waves. Results show that the RC-snubber circuit with the calculated value of capacity and resistance protects IGCTs well.
