  • Abstract
    We present distortion measurements of 850-nm oxide aperture vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) over a 2 GHz to 8 GHz frequency range. A maximum spurious free dynamic range (SFDR) of 107.8 dB-Hz/sup 2/3/ at 2.6 GHz was measured, which we believe is the highest reported SFDR for a VCSEL. Resonant distortion due to the intrinsic nonlinearity of the laser and optical feedback is measured in both free space and multimode fiber-optic links.
