Abstract :
In this paper, we address the issue of rendering network-based multimedia services under the guarantee of access delay. We propose a novel strategy, referred to as window-assisted video partitioning (WAVP), for rendering cost-effective multimedia services. To minimize the service cost and maximize the number of requests that can be successfully served under resource constraints (cache capacity and link bandwidth), our WAVP strategy partitions videos into multiple portions and delivers them by adaptive schedule windows. We precisely implement our work for testing in real-life situation, and analyze the performance under several influencing parameters such as the availability of link bandwidth, cache capacity, and the bound of clients´ access delay. Our results show that the proposed method can significantly reduce the service cost and achieve a high acceptance ratio under the constraints of network resources.
