Abstract :
We present a simple model of communication costs for conservative asynchronous simulations using a bus structure. Not only is this a useful communication structure in practice, but it places some constraints on communication which make it more amenable for "on the fly" characterizations. Overall, the model shows, promise when evaluated using test cases not involved in the model building. Most of the characterizations can be computed using simple formulas parameterized with variables obtained from the input program. A few characterizations are more complex, but these can be estimated by applying a sequence of simple functions.
