Abstract :
A variable structure control for asymptotic stabilization of a class of nonlinear uncertain processes is proposed. In particular, continuous fermentation processes exhibiting nonlinear parametric uncertainty are considered. The control design is carried out with direct use of nonlinear model, expert knowledge and on-line measurement of output variable only. The smooth control input signal is obtained by realizing the sliding mode with respect to the highest control derivative. The system invariance to parameter uncertainties and external disturbance are guaranteed. The good control performance is demonstrated by simulation investigations
