Abstract :
The Split Spectrum Processing (SSP) technique is applied to breast scan data to enhance the detectability of tumorous regions. An extensive literature search has been performed to assess the differences in the scattering and absorption characteristics in metals and human tissue. The results of this investigation are used to modify the current SSP algorithms for enhanced biomedical imaging. The modified SSP algorithms are applied to both A-scan plots and B-scan images from cancer patients to assess the resulting image enhancement and tumor detection capabilities. The comparison of the experimental results with the biopsy reports reveal the viability of the technique in biomedical ultrasonography
