Abstract
Optical networking seems to be the next major revolution to the telecommunication industry. This paper addresses the key factors involved in embracing this into any operator´s network. Various optical networking architecture options are described and economic analyses are shown as the primary filtering method to reduce thousands of variations to a handful of options.
