Abstract :
Thrust from government policies, regulations, and solar technology advancements have brought rapid rise in installed capacity of off-grid and grid-connected Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) systems in India. This paper presents an update on a case study undertaken for the underground cable fed electrical power distribution network with two types of local grid-connected small SPV systems. The distribution network is situated in an institutional premise in Gujarat, India. The exercise on data preparation for modeling of underground cable network and major load components is presented. Distribution power flow (DPF) for 3-φ, 4-wire is used to investigate the effect of SPV generation on operation of local distribution network in balanced and unbalanced conditions. The case study also includes analysis of effect of local reactive compensation on network performance. The analysis will potentially serve as a feasibility study report for small roof-top grid-connected SPV power projects in India.
