Abstract :
The paper endeavors to assess the extent of technical efficiency, pure technical efficiency and scale efficiency of Indian thermal power plants at unit level. Result shows that there is no significant degree of difference in scale efficiency. Managerial inefficiency is the main source of overall technical inefficiency. The results pertaining to Tobit analysis reveal that regional differential and ownership-specific influence are significant factors to determine the technical efficiency of power plant units.
