Abstract :
Acoustic Doppler velocity profiles were collected near a municipal water intake to determine the withdrawal characteristics from Lake Mead for stratified and destratified reservoir conditions. Understanding the withdrawal characteristics of this intake is important for operations of the associated water treatment facilities. Velocity measurements were collected using an RD Instruments acoustic Doppler current profiler and a Sontek/YSI Argonaut acoustic Doppler velocimeter. Velocity profile data were collected simultaneously, and duplicate measurements were collected for quality control purposes. A discussion of the results and a comparison of the two measurement techniques are presented.
