  • Abstract
In this paper, a real-time control scheme of BESSs (battery energy storage systems) on EHV (extra-high voltage) network is studied to improve angle and voltage stability in the power system. The proposed control scheme assumes to adopt wide-area measurement system equipped with PMUs (phasor measurement units). By monitoring internal voltage and rotor speed of generators in real-time, active and reactive power injection by the BESSs are controlled to suppress an increase of an energy function and rotor speed of the critical generator in the emergency state. Numerical simulations are conducted on a multi-machine power system with multiple BESSs. The effectiveness of the proposed method on the transient stability and the short-term voltage stability is verified under fault conditions such as a grounding fault and a generator contingency. The results show the improvement of the transient stability and the short-term voltage stability by controlling the BESSs.
