Abstract
The PHOTON and MOON projects prove the feasibility of all-optical networking by implementing field trial networks in Europe, demonstrating repeaterless 10-Gbit/s transmission over more than 1000 km within an eight-channel wavelength-division multiplexing grid, optical cross-connecting and management of a photonic network with three optical crossconnects and line amplifiers.
