Abstract :
Recent advancements in modeling and information management for products have facilitated for engineers to cope with new challenges such as high number of product variants, short innovation cycles, high quality requirements, and severe competition. Key technologies such as integrated product modeling, knowledge based recording and application of experience and expertise, and product data management (PDM) have gained every day application in engineering. New paradigm of product lifecycle management (PLM) has been encountered in order to establish a highly integrated environment for the product engineering process from first idea to recycling. In the meantime, virtual world of PLM gains more and more communications with physical environments, utilizing time and geographical site independence of the Internet. In this talk, main concept for integrated information and knowledge representation, world of virtual products and prototyping, role and place of humans in intelligent engineering systems, trend towards wide application of engineering experience entities, and cooperation between virtual and physical worlds are presented. As one of the purposes of this talk, latest advancements in current leading industrial engineering systems are considered.
