Abstract :
It is noted that Malaysia is enjoying a growth in the utilization of power, telecommunications, and computer systems. The authors discuss the systems available in Malaysia, and prospects of connection with rural areas, particularly in the southern part of the Peninsula of Malaysia, which includes many offshore islands. The various rural economic activities that have created the need for the system and the factors hindering its rapid growth are discussed. In addition, some recommendations for overcoming the problems are given. The authors attempt to show the steps taken by the Malaysian government to ensure better utilization of electrical power and telecommunication facilities by the rural population
