Abstract
A family of cardiac prostheses is being developed for temporary left and right heart assist as well as permanent left heart assist applications. These devices are all based on small continuous-flow pumps, including the Hemopump, a temporary left heart assist pump now undergoing clinical trials. A description is given of the basic Hemopump concept, some of the key development issues it presented, and how its technology is being utilized in other blood delivery applications.<>
