Abstract :
Joint optimization of bit energy and channel coding is proposed to improve the quality of image transmission. The amount of bit energy and whether coding is used or not is decided based on minimizing the mean square error of the image; equivalently, maximizing the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR). An off-line iterative algorithm to find the optimum combination is proposed. The proposed scheme shows a significant improvement in performance compared to the cases of equal power allocation or coding alone
