Abstract
Many research works have been done in the area of maneuvering target tracking recently. A novel method of controlling the sampling interval is presented. With the relationship among the accuracy and the sampling interval and the model parameters of the filter being applied, the sampling interval to achieve the defined accuracy with certain model parameters can be determined. It is shown by Monte-Carlo tests that this method can conserve the advantages of those methods based on the IMM estimator while its computer burden is reduced significantly
