Abstract
In this paper, a new type of discrete-time signal and related signal-processing technique, called discrete/continuous (D/C), is introduced and a variety of potential application-areas are described. A D/C signal can be viewed as a natural generalization of the traditional zoh-type signal format with the (new) feature that continuous, intersample time-variations of the D/C signal are allowed. In some applications the use of D/C signals can lead to improved performance, compared to zoh signals. In other applications the novel features of D/C signals provide essential technical capabilities not available in traditional signal-formats.
