Abstract
In this paper, a Markov chain with finite states is proposed to represent the statistics of a MPEG-based video service. The characteristic of our model is that the distribution function of each state can be simply represented by a Gaussian probability density function. The procedure for estimating the parameters of the model from a sample video service is also discussed in detail. The degree of agreement between our model and the tested data is proved by a K-S test
