  • Abstract
Advanced head disk interface (HDI) system assisted by gas Perfluoropolyether (PFPE) lubrication was discussed in this paper. It is known that the lubricant spins-off under the high-rotation-speed and high temperature. Our proposing HDI system showed high performance without the lubricant spin-off and redistribution. That was to drip only small amount of lubricant on the slider suspension. This lubricant was evaporated into the head disk interface, and that in gas phase was absorbed onto disk surface, where its thickness was decreased. As the results, the spin-off, the redistribution and also the head contamination were significantly reduced. The lubricant on magnetic disk is expected to be maintained for long time.
