Abstract :
The authors previously (1987) reported on the structure, design, specifications, and applications of their infrastructure for clinical research in the field of electrocardiographic body surface potential mapping. They summarize the main characteristics of the hardware (acquisition, storage and display) and the software (data processing, display, analysis, and mathematical modelling). The various features of the infrastructure are analyzed critically, examining the pitfalls which should be avoided and some alternative designs which should be taken into consideration due to the evolution of technology.<>
