Abstract :
This paper presents a new method to automatically obtain fish ontologies using its digital pictures and pattern recognition. The geometric ontologies are used to identify the fish type. Silver carp is used as an example to be compared with common carp and snakehead fish. This research is the pioneer of automatic fish ontology definition and fish recognition, and proves the effectiveness to use geometric features as the fish ontology. Ontology is used to analyze the features and relationship of silver carp and its relationship with two other samples. Details of retrieving and transforming geometric features using Matlab programming are introduced. The method will be based on digital photograph processing; only side pictures of the fish are considered.
