  • Abstract
Numerical analysis of fluid structure interaction in a disk drive verifies that a damper plate reduces aerodynamic disturbances, allowing for lower off-track vibration of read-write heads. Further analysis reveals that arm holes used for mass reduction also appear to have a detrimental effect on the flow field, with subsequent negative effects to head vibration.
