Abstract
A fuzzy morphological edge enhancing operator is presented. An image is mapped into a fuzzy set by this operator. The theory of fuzzy sets is used to describe the fuzzy degree of an edge. By changing the membership function with nonlinear operators, enhancement of the gradient of fuzzy edges can be achieved. It is shown by computer simulations that the gradient of edges is enhanced by a fuzzy morphological edge-enhancing operator and the structure and features of images are strengthened and edges can be easily extracted
