Abstract :
Intrusion detection in commercial wired networks is a difficult problem. Providing this same service in an ad hoc networking environment both compounds existing difficulties and provides new issues to address. We have constructed a tactical environment assurance laboratory (TEALab) to provide an environment for studying network attacks and attack recognition in ad hoc networking environments. Our approach to emulating mobile ad hoc environments allows for the employment of real attack tools and real detectors under highly realistic scenarios. We provide an overview of the attack facilities provided by TEALab and describe how the TEALab enables us to study broad classes of attack opportunities anticipated for tactical networking environments
