Abstract
This paper describes a method for simulating excitation current for no-load transformers based on Jiles-Atherton model, and the saturation and hysteresis effect of the iron core is taken into consideration. Matlab is used to obtain different excitation current waveforms under different voltage levels. Then the method has been applied to an 11kV transformer. The B-H curves and excitation current waveforms show nonlinear distortion, especially when the voltage is high. The results are in agreement with the facts.
