Abstract :
Various power amplifier technologies are compared specifically for applications in emerging new air interface standards such as 3G, LEOS and MEOS satellite systems and WLAN. The differences between present and future systems related directly to power transistor and amplifier developments are defined. The paper describes state-of-the-art results for power amplifiers and indicates the challenges being faced for improved performances. The trade-offs of various types of linearization are covered. Advances in simulation techniques (with examples of electrical, mechanical and thermal designs) are described
