  • Abstract
The electrical characteristics of metal halide lamp play an important role in the electronic ballast design. In this paper, various 70-Watt metal halide lamps are measured and their high frequency equivalent lamp models are well established. The results show that all of the metal halide lamps have negative resistive characteristics, despite of the difference of the lamps due to manufacturing process. The lamp impedance can be represented by a second order function of the lamp power. In addition, the lamp voltages and lamp currents can be expressed as linear functions of the lamp power. The evaluation provides very useful information for various metal halide lamps in the electronic ballast design.
