Title :
Smart inverter drive for traction
Author_Institution :

Abstract :
Two advantages of having electric drives in road vehicles are that there is a reduction in the number of mechanical parts and an increase in environmentally-friendly operating conditions. In addition, electric vehicles are not only used for engine-driven acceleration but also for generator-driven deceleration which thus achieves a high degree of total power efficiency. The best traction conditions are given when each wheel of a vehicle is powered by a separate inverter-fed AC-motor. These Multidrive systems make a lot of mechanical components superfluous such as clutches, gear transmissions, driving and steering shafts as well as differentials and brakes.
