Abstract :
The authors assert that previously available definitions of a brushless DC motor are inadequate to distinguish it from other types of brushless motors in the industry. A formal definition of a brushless DC motor is proposed. The definition includes the components of the motor and the types of circuits to energize the stator windings.<>
