Abstract
This paper presents a novel fault-location method for distribution systems based on direct circuit analysis. In order to provide a unique fault distance result, an algorithm is proposed to by an effective iterative and traversal procedure and is applicable for all types of faults. The method is one-end impedance based method using the substation voltage and current quantities. The fault-location equations use line impedance matrix, load impedance matrix and fault admittance matrix. The method is developed in phasor domain, assuming that the topology of distribution network and the fault type are known. Simulation studies have demonstrated that the proposed method has high accuracy in radial distribution system.
