Abstract
A method of determining the motor losses under the operating conditions inclusive of saturation is described. General expressions for the flux frequencies in different parts of the core are derived. It is shown that the number of (fundamental) flux frequencies simultaneously present in the machine is a function of the number of phases and that the core losses are a function of excitation current and speed. It is proved that most of the core losses occur in the rotor. Fourier analysis is applied to separate the fundamental and harmonic components of losses. Experimental verification on a 6/4-pole laboratory prototype is presented and discussed. The measurement techniques applied and some of the problems encountered are briefly described.<>
