Abstract
Symbolic modelling is used to model power converter circuits such that exact time-domain equations can be derived and used to evaluate/improve the performance of the design. The proposed method works in the time domain and allows steady-state solutions to be sought directly. Both continuous and discontinuous conduction modes can be solved. This method completely eliminates numerical errors usually associated with all numerical methods. Furthermore, the proposed method greatly speeds up analysis and design time. A step-down DC-DC converter system is used as an example to illustrate the application of the method.
