Abstract :
A brief biography of Ralph A. Evans is given highlighting his professional achievements. Throughout his career, Ralph contributed significantly to the creation, evaluation and dissemination of reliability research. He served as editor and then Managing Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Reliability from 1969 until 2004. As editor of the Transactions, he routinely prepared thought provoking and informative editorials for every issue. In fact, his direct ?? "no holds barred" ?? commentary on reliability engineering methods may be the most lasting constituent of the Transactions and continue to serve as sound advice for product assurance specialists. Ralph also was the founding editor of the ASQC Reliability Review. Ralph is a Fellow of the IEEE and of the ASQ. He is a member of the IEEE Reliability Society, of the ASQ Reliability and Electronics & Communications Divisions, and of the American Society for Metals. In 1989, the ASQ Electronics & Communications Division initiated the Ralph A. Evans Award There are many more citations in Ralph??s list of achievements and service activities. The key item for the participants at this Symposium is that he served on the Management Committee from 1965 through 2004 and published these Proceedings as well as the Tutorial Notes for over 20 years.
