Abstract
In this talk we document the reasons for which energy efficiency requires joint consideration of all networking layers and provide selected examples that illustrate this thesis. We focus on wireless sensor networks in which each sensor includes an embedded processor and in which the fundamental trade-off is centered on how to split the energy expenditures between processing and transmission
