Abstract :
Traditionally gravity based foundations for offshore wind energy convertors (OWECs) have only been used in relatively shallow water (<20 m) as they become uneconomical with increasing depths. The SeaBreeze Project as described in this paper comprises of the development of a radically new and novel offshore wind turbine support structure intended to significantly increase the economic operating range of offshore wind-farms. This new concept is expected to be cost effective to depths of up to 50 m.
