Title :
Switching behaviour of GTO cascode switches

Abstract :
The author presents work on a high-frequency, high-power GTO (gate-turn-off) switch operated in the cascode configuration. This configuration is shown to have considerable advantages over conventionally gated GTO switches. These include much reduced turn-off times and snubberless operation, and hence, the ability to operate at increased switching frequency. The major limit on switching frequency is shown to be tail losses; this phenomenon is studied in some detail.<>
