Abstract :
Unwanted harmonic content and nonunity power factor of the current resulting from three-phase power electronic loads are compensated with a simple GTO (gate turn-off) thyristor bridge. The bridge, the simulation method, and the design of the discrete controller for the bridge are described. Computer simulation results for the GTO bridge are presented in the form of current waveforms, harmonic analysis, and power-factor calculations. The harmonic content of the source current is reduced to less than 8% with unity power factor.<>
