Abstract
A method for the noise estimation in an ECG (electrocardiogram) is described. This method is based on the distribution of the frequencies of the slopes in an ECG waveform. This distribution is compared with the distribution of the frequencies of the slopes of an ECG without noise, applying the chi /sup 2/ test. The method is simple, since no QRS complex detection is needed, and it gives a preview of the noise magnitude present in an ECG, since only the first two cardiac cycles of the ECG are required. The method was tested using real ECGs.<>
