Foreword

The 8th Symposium on Computer Arithmetic (ARITH8) was held at the Centra Alessandro Volta in Como, Italy on May 19–21, 1987. The Symposia on Computer Arithmetic are held every other year, most recently alternating between the United States and Europe. A total of 36 papers were presented in ten technical sessions at AKITH8. Contributions were made by 68 authors from all over the world. Papers published in the Proceedings cover topics from theoretical foundations, to arithmetic algorithms and processors, to fault-tolerant arithmetic, to nonstandard number representations and their associated arithmetic.
