Abstract :
The panelist will discuss the recent developments responsible for the planning, design and implementation of plusmn 800 kV HVDC transmission systems. The focus of the presentation will be overhead HVDC transmission lines. Following a brief review of the research and testing that has been carried out so far for the electrical design of HVDC lines, the operating experience of existing transmission lines in the range of plusmn 400 kV to plusmn 600 kV is presented. Finally, the design requirements of plusmn 800 kV HVDC transmission lines and the needs for any additional research and testing will be discussed.
