Abstract :
Paper presents design, experiments and results with Optical Correlator based Traffic Signs Inventory System. The system has been designed and tested on highway D1 on Slovakia. The real traffic scenes were used. The system consists of five main blocks; Video Capture, GPS module, Preprocessing, Optical Correlation and Display. Video is captured with color camera and GPS coordinates are continuously recorded. The ROI is defined and chosen in preprocessing block. Preprocessed ROI goes to Optical Correlator a then is compared with reference images from database. After correlation, the correlations peaks present match between captured Traffic Sign and Traffic Sign from Inventory Database. If a match occurs, captured Traffic Sign is OK, if match does not occurs captured Traffic Sign is damaged or missing. Several experiments have been done with this system. Results and conclusion are discussed.
