Abstract :
RALPH, a signal analysis and generation program currently in its second generation, has been used in many bioengineering applications, including analysis of electrocardiograms and electroencephalograms, breath-by-breath respiratory-function analysis, and studies of speech perception. The design philosophy for RALPH dictated that it be capable, menu-oriented, and extensible. RALPH consists of an interactive environment that allows several signal processing algorithms to be run on a signal without the need to write specialized programs. Simple input and output routines allow digitized signals to be read from or written to disk files and also allow the signal to be plotted or printed. An extensive waveform-generation section can be used to synthesize custom waveforms as the need arises.<>
