Summary form only given. The purpose of this paper is to address new philosophies as well as overcurrent devices which can greatly affect reliability at virtually no additional cost. Areas of interest include: "fuse save vs. fuse blow", automation, electronic recloser automatic loop schemes, single phase tripping, lateral fusing philosophy, sequence coordination, fault impedance considerations, etc.
