Abstract :
Modern approaches for theoretical analysis of Gunn diode voltage controlled oscillators (VCO) are discussed in this report in the wide frequency band. The design and technological problems for VCO operation mode optimization and new experimental data are described. As a result of the research fulfilled, Gunn oscillators are developed with frequency adjustment by the varicap supply circuit intended for operation in FM short-range radar ensuring the improved metering and operation performance.VCO theoretical simulation is performed using the special software for UHF devices on PC. Simulation results demonstrate a possibility of VCO of 5-mm range implementation on the basis of GaAs Gunn diodes and varicaps. Using the computer simulation results the VCO operating models are created with the following parameters: (i) operating wavelength range - (4 - 6) mm; (ii) frequency electrical adjustment range - more than 3 GHz; (iii) output power inside the electrical adjustment range - more than 10 mW. (iv) slope overfall for frequency adjustment at each models does not exceed 3 times. The operating speed of frequency electrical adjustment is investigated. The maximal measured speed is more than 50 times 1012 Hzsec.
