Abstract :
A repetitive magnetic stimulator of up to 50 Hz was developed. Ten subjects forearms were stimulated at 3-50 Hz and wrist bend angle was measured. We found 6 Hz or lower stimulation elicited clear thumb twitches whereas 10 Hz or higher elicited a continuous wrist bend. Twitch to continuous tonus transition was observed between 6-10 Hz. The wrist bend angle increment rate was at approximately 7°/Hz in 3-5 Hz stimulation and 6-40 Hz was 1-2°/Hz. The maximum wrist bend angle was 86° at 0.16 T, 50 Hz, 200 μs duration, biphasic magnetic stimuli. These results suggest useful applications of repetitive magnetic stimuli in rehabilitation as well as orthopedics, pulmonology and urology
