Abstract
The nonlinear dynamics of a conventional GaAs Gunn diode operating in a waveguide resonant circuit has been examined. Evidence for complicated nonlinear behavior is given by experiments and, where possible, by simple mathematical reasoning. It is shown that the essential dynamical features of a self-sustained Gunn oscillator can be partly explained by means of simple mathematical expressions based on the theory of a periodically forced oscillator.
