Abstract :
In 1991, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) initiated the Journey To Excellence (JTE) program aimed at delivering the highest quality products to customers at a competitive price. During the past six years, the Fab 10 Photo Module has been implementing facets of the JTE program-from upgrading technician skills, to establishing a team-based structure, to setting productivity stretch goals. This paper examines the work culture and business outcomes Fab 10´s Photo Module has experienced. Pre-Journey to Excellence data is compared with present impact data. Quantitative measurements such as skill upgrades, line yield, Natural Work Group staffing, equipment utilization, and cycle time from 1991 (pre-Journey To Excellence) and present are offered. Qualitative data from Fab 10´s Photo Module provides another perspective
